Education

Class education as an “essential service” in all budget and policy considerations.

Education is about growing the future of our country.  ACP will ensure that education is classified as an essential service in all budget and policy considerations.  This means the importance of education would be given the same treatment as decisions relating to our police, fire and ambulance services.  The cuts to TAFE services in recent years will be stopped.

Improved access to affordable education in regional communities.

Affordable education is essential in keeping our regional communities viable.  Many children leave a community when they get past secondary school and never come back.  It is the government’s job to ensure affordable access is available where they are needed, not where the more important votes are.  We will ensure this is reflected in current government allocations.

We will expand training and education in areas where the subjects are relevant to the needs of local business and enterprises, not centralize all higher and specialized education in Melbourne.

Sexualisation of children through school curriculums.

The Australian Country Party will oppose any legislation to continue, or initiate any new programs, which teach gender ideology or portray sexual intimacy in schools.  Sexual education should only extend to the biological functions and the process of reproduction from conception to birth as part of the science curriculum and be age appropriate and respectful of the social and cultural values of families in the school community.  We believe parents and guardians are primarily responsible for teaching their children about respectful, intimate relationships, their joys, dangers and morals.

Parents and guardians have the right to be notified of these classes and withdraw their children from this aspect of education.  As per Article 18.4 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: The States Parties to the present Covenant undertake to have respect for the liberty of parents and, when applicable legal guardians, to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions.  (http://www.ohchr.org/en/professionalinterest/pages/ccpr.aspx)
